Zerolon's Guide to Bastok (Travel, Missions, Area)Update #16

Hello all, The following is a Guide to Bastok in WoTG, from missions to travel. This will help you get on the right foot. I appreciate any and all contributions and will gladly give credit to them.

    Index:
    A. Blue Commendation
    B. Traveling to Bastok Markets
    C. Overview of Markets
    D. Missions
    E. Bastok Campaign
    F. Zone Analysis

    Ok let's begin..

    A. Blue Commendation

The Blue Commendation is used to join the 4th Brigade in Bastok. In order to obtain this run from Rolanberry Fields up to the Eldieme Necropolis. Entrance is J-10 in Batallia Downs. Once inside run straight ahead to J-9 and Turbulent Storm will give you the letter.

Note: If the zone is under sieged the NPC will not be there, you will need to wait till the siege is over with.

    [attachment=0:u83avka1]0148_eldieme-necropolis2_1.jpg[/attachment:u83avka1]

    B. Time for the Long Haul

Alright time to go to Bastok Markets.

1: Rolanberry Fields - This is straight forward and doesn't require a map. Run to Pashhow Marshlands like you normally would. There is nothing here that has been changed drastically from the normal map.

Aggro (75) : Gobbue, Quadav, (Some) Ochu

    2. Pashhow Marshlands - The goal is below. The Highlands exit is blocked off. This Goal will take you to Grauberg our next destination. It's a straight foward march to the goal, and can be taken numerous ways.

Aggro (75) : Pieste, Quadav, Slugs, Zombies (night)

    http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/9...hlands2bo5.jpg

3: Grauberg (Map - Quest: Lost in Translocation) - This zone is fun and new. This is another straightforward Stay along the Eastern wall, watching out for aggro along the way. Once you hit the southern most wall, just continue to follow it west till you get to the zone. Note: Watch for Chigoes in bushes

Aggro (75) : Quadav, Pieste, Treant, Chigoes (Hides in bushes x2)

Notes: J-12 there's a cave with a egg inside. Yet, no ??? interesting.

    http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/9...raubergmy7.jpg

4: North Gustaburg - Head South, and cross the bridge, from there watch the Eastern wall for a ramp leading up. Continue Heading east as you reach the top. You will come to the Obere Creek Bridge, just as you pass it. Head south. The Bastok Markets Entrance is there.

    Aggro (75): Quadav

    Notes:
    A. Highlands Entrance is ??? - Barricade (Used in Fighting Fourth Mission)

    Re: Zerolon's Guide to Bastok

    C.Bastok Soldier, Here I come

Bastok Markets has numerous things. The first thing you'll want to do is head on over to the AN Desks and speak to "Adelbrecht" he will get you signed up with Bastok and send you out on you're first errand (Section D.1)

    http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6277/map2rs1.jpg

    Let's break this down.

    1. Chocobo Lady - She's currently unusable (possible future?)

    2. Zazarag - That's right our lovable General is standing tall and proud

    3. I.M NPCS - See Bastok Campaign below (Section E.2)

    4. Delivery Box - There is one on the southern side near the second entrance to the Mog house as well

    5. Mog Houses - They are workable and have full functions

    6. Campaign - See Bastok Campaign below (Section E.1)

    7. Bard - There are 2 Bards 1 at J-10 and the other at I-8

    8. Hanging Cages - Unknown

    9. Home Point - There is a home point at E-9

    10. Narkissa, C.A.- Narkissa is a teleport NPC similar to our Outpost NPCs. She require a Allied Note donation in order to teleport to one the designated zones.

The Entrances to Bastok Mines, South Gusta, Port Bastok and even Bastok Metalworks are all blocked off. Only Bastok Metalworks is even clickable.

There are numerous NPC's that fill out a reach back story run around and have fun with it.

    D. Missions

    D.1 The Fighting Fourth

Now it's time to knock out this mission. Didn't think they were going to trust you that easily did you?

    1. Zone out to North Gusta. Run to Zegham Hill first floor I-7. You're going to Eduard Watchtower. Talk to the NPC Gebhardt. He will inform you that he's worried about a communication and sends you to Benedikt Tower.

    2. Run down to the Western Side of Gusta down the ramp, and straight on down to E-12. This is Benedikt Tower. Here speak to Renholdt (forgot his name). It seems the communication has been stolen, and they don't have enough men to send to the Northeast camp and the Northwest. Looks like it's a job for you..

    3. Run up to the Highlands entrance at E-7. Click on the ??? called Barricade. Watch the interesting cutscene. Now it's time to hop on back to Bastok Markets.

    4. Talk to Adelbrecht, to become a member of the fighting fourth, as well as recieve you're

Sprinter's Shoes: - Enchantment yea disappointed as well...

    4. You will need a Gnole Claw for the next part, these can drop from Decrepit Gnoles as well as regular Gnoles in Vunkrel Isle & Batallia Downs - VI (Confirmed by Me), Batilla Downs (Confirmed by Shiroken)

Notes: This is a very rare drop as of now, you have better chances having a TH, if you do not be prepared to kill anywhere from 1 - for some people up 100...

Gnoles: EP to 75 Moves: Penilune Embrace: Cure's for 1,000HP, Call of the Moon: Killer Effect
    Decrepid Gnoles: DC to 75

    http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/4...forest2zw1.jpg

    6. You will come in at F4, move yourself east and south along the paths, avoiding the Tigers. At I-7 you will see a Cyclopean Gate, head North through it to find Leadavox.

    http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/3...rlinletsl8.jpg

    7. He will Ask for a Gnole Claw, trade the claw to receive the key item "Xhifut, and begin you're trek back to Bastok.

    2. After the CS, head over to Padakgo at H-9. You'll see some familiar faces in a new light.

    3. If you haven't figured it out yet, our Little Galkan friend is none other than Iron Eater. So, head out to North Gusta's Maw or however you wish to get back to Modern Day Bastok.

    4. Iron Eater sits in front of the president's office in Bastok Metalworks, talk to him get you're cs, he will mention Grauberg. Don't go there yet.

    5. Travel back in time, in anyway you like. Head back to Engleheart at K-10 in Markets. You'll get a CS.

    6. Travel on out to Grauberg. Head to I-5, you'll find a Cave leading back into I-6. Touch the ??? for a "Dun Dun Dun" CS..

    http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/8444/sigilpx3.jpg
Allied Sigil is the new form of Sanction/Signet in the past. It works in the same way as Sanction in that you can spend Allied Notes to get bonus on meal duration, refresh and regen. Power of the buffs are Dependant on you're nations standing.

You can obtain you're Sigil from Millard at G-5. Along with Allied Sigil. Millard will allow you trade Allied Notes in for Items.
    Ribbons:
A pair of Sprinter Shoes (980)
    http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/6655/shoescv7.jpg

    A Fourth Division tunica (1000)
    http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/9373/fdtdy6.jpg

    A pilgrim tunica (1000)
    http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/8917/ptrs2.jpg

    A Fourth Division gun (3000)
    http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/4967/fdgbw3.jpg

Along with these items, you can also see the duration of you're sigil

Notes: the Fourth Division Tunica currently shows no signs of hidden effects - Contributed by Daimen-G

    E.3 Campaign Ops

Ops allows you to go out and perform assault style mini missions for you're nation. These are done by receiving 1 Op credit per real life day, 24 hours. Current Missions are broken down into:
    A.Resource Procurement:

    1. Stock and Awe I: Comes in two flavors (A) & (B), You will be asked to give the quartermaster a item. Seems to be ore, currently. After trading the quartermaster the required item. You receive 90 xp and 480 allied Notes - Help by Alipay

    2. Material Storm I (B): Similar to Stock and Awe, proceed to you're quartermaster. He will request a item. (Ex. 12 Dark Crystals), return with the item to him to receive 140xp and 580 AN

    B. Supply Transport:

    1. Vanguard-X I: Go to a Checkpoint Garrison. These are the NPC's at Zone Borders that are owned by Bastok. The most common one would be North Gustaburg, the zone to Grauberg. Click the NPC and a Reinforcement NPC will spawn. You will need to escort him to a Stronghold (D-10 in NG). He will follow you, but at certain points the NPC will say he's spotted a enemy scout and run off. Click him again to get him back to following you. Once you arrive at the stronghold you will have completed the mission. You receive 100xp at the Stronghold, and 500 allied notes back at CO..

    C. Security:

    1. Streetsweeper I (B): Look around Bastok Markets[S] for a ??? called Suspicious Object. Click it and done, 60xp and 420 AN. - Contributed by Reapz

    D. Supply Manufacture:

    1. Crystal Fist I :It is a crafting operation. Talked to the adjutant who asked me what my specialty was, I chose cooking since I'm a veteran in that craft. She then asked me the ingredients for 3 simple recipes (1 crystal and two items). Lik Kabob, Stamina Apple, and Hard-Boiled Egg. When I gave her the correct ingredients (pick from a list - you don't need to have them or the finished product), the apprentices made the items. - Contributed by Tenzai

    2. Iron Anvil I (B): Same as Crystal Fist, you are asked to give the ingredient on a crafting style of you're choice. This time however the requested crafting item will be of higher level, you will receive 140xp and 580AN

After completing this I got 90 xp (at lvl 70) and turning it in gave me 480 allied notes.

    E. Offensive Operations:

    F. Defensive Operations:

    G. Intel Gathering:

    1. Hawkeye I (B): You're ordered to gather Intel at a defensive strong hold held by the Quadavs. Head to a zone with Quadavs. Click the ??? at a fort without sneak or invisible to gather Intel. You get 90 xp and 480 allied notes - Contributed by Seigfried Of Pandy

    H. Military Training:

You will receive Allied Notes for completion of these missions, as well as unlocking further missions. Canceling a OP does not give you're Token back.. So be careful - Contributed by Lordwafik

    E.4 Campaign Battle:

Campaign Battle is the heart of the Campaign. To begin, go to one of the zone's strongholds. Like North Gusta's D-10. When the music changes, along with a Sword being put on Campaign Map. It means a Campaign is about to begin. This is when you speak to a fellow NPC at one of the strongholds. Chose Allied Tags, this puts a sword over you're head.

During this time, you will not lose any xp from dieing, but neither will you gain any or receive drop items. A squad a NM will roam around, you are defeat them, or at least push them back in similar besieged style. Once the enemy has ran away / warped away. You will be able to go back to the NPC and get a tally on how well you did. The current Max is 600xp and 600 AN, that I've seen.

E.5 NPC Ally List - The following is some of the NPC who fight for Bastok - Contributed by Damien-G
Adelheid - Leads 2nd Legion Scouts. She and her Squad are a group of Scholars.
Sonia - Dancer. Leads 2nd Legion Grenadiers (appear to be WARs- have only seen them stationed in town.)
Else - Dragoon. Leads some 1st Legion support troop, but I forget the exact name. I've only ever seen them in town. They appeared to be Red Mages.
Maximillian- Warrior. Leads the 1st Legionaires, a squadron of Warriors.
Ludwig- Dark Knight. Leads the 2nd Legionaires, a squadron of Dark Knights.
Bartholomaus - Red Mage. Leads the 1st Iron Musketeers, a squadron of Red Mages.
Invincible Shield - Warrior. Leads the 3rd Legionaires, a squadron of Warriors.
Kurt- GKT Ninja. Leads the 8th Iron Musketeers, a squadron of Ninjas.
Elivira - Uniquely modeled RNG with Annihilator. Uses WS once every two seconds and self-skillchains fairly often. Leads the 1st Gold Musketeers, a squadron of RNGs.

    E.6 Rank Up / Medals

How does one get more Campaign Ops? More Trouble? Every 5 real life days, you can have yourself evaluated. This evaluation will tally how well you've done in CO, CB and other fields. Based on you're score you will receive a medal. These medals add varies statuses. Such as the ability to do more Campaign Ops, Get more Allied Notes from CB, etc.

This sadly also means you must work even harder to maintain the medal. Each medal comes with a limited time frame. In order to maintain it you will need to score the same or higher every evaluation. It is currently unknown what all the different medals are.

    Current Medals Known:

Bronze Ribbon of Service $ (Starter Ribbon)
Brass Ribbon of Service $ $

    Re: Zerolon's Guide to Bastok

    F. Zone Analysis

The following is a 3 part Analysis of the outlying zones of Bastok. Depending on people's reaction, I may make a new topic and do all zones in expansion, we will see.

    F.1 Grauberg
Description: Grauberg rests to the north of North Gustaberg and lies to the East of Konschtat Highlands. This rocky and mountain area. While similar in style to highlands in looks, Grauberg stands out with it's varies flowers, rocky hills, waterfalls and caverns. It is unknown why in the current time this zone is inaccessible, but with time we may be able to find out.

    http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/1064/mapsm2.jpg

    1. Witchfire Glen : Settled in the northern part of Grauberg, WG is home to the Sihed (Pixie Family). Scattered amongst with Ponds. This erie, but beautiful area seems to currently have no purpose. Yet, with Pixie's being so fluent throughout a future quest or mission here dealing with these fascinating race may not be far off. A cave sits off to the North West of this section holding the Stone Monument (See Below)

Challenge 1: I tried fishing with a Mithran Pole + Fly Lure and a Carbon Rod + Sabiki Rig, I'd like to Challenge someone to fish in the ponds and report back to me. Thank you.

2.Skyrend : The highest point in Grauberg. The climb can be deadly with the large amounts of Ajattara about. These Green Wyvern based creature seem to have set up a nest near by. When you reach the top of Skyrend, you are treated to both the site of the Crag of Dem, but also to what seems to large stone fangs jutting out of the ground. Is this nest of the Ajattara or a possible location for a new NM/HNM?

    3. Cave Entrance (I-5): This Cave is used in the quest "Fire of Discontent" as a possible hiding spot for Galkan weaponry.

    4. ??? - Unknown (L-6) : This mysterious ??? is currently unkown to me. Quest, NM pop?

    5. Grauberg Guntower: This tower is Bastok main stay here in Grauberg. Beseiged upon by Quadav's this is Bastok's last line of Defense in Campaign before the Pashhow Push..

    6. ??? - Healing Herbs: This ??? sits under the tree, and produces the plant Fireblossom for the quest in Windy. This plant is now extinct in present day.

    7. Old Cabin (E-12) : This myserious Cabin reside here in Grauberg under guard from 3 Bastokan NPC's. Emmerich, Childerich, (Will have to check), The cabin itself has no current purpose, except for a clickable "Old Door" that is currently locked.

    8. Stone Monument : (Currently Re-doing due to deleted screenshot)

    Monsters:
    Atajarra
    Knotty Treant
    Wild Sapling
    Pieste
    Quadav
    Chigoe
    Grauberg Hippogryph
    War Lizards
    Rock Eater

    Hobby:
    Harvesting Points - throught F-11 to K11
    Mining Points - Unknown
    Lumber Points - Unknown
    Fishing - Unknown

Notes: You can use the 3 waterways to drop down to the southern section below.

    Speculation:

It wouldn't be hard to believe that Grauberg and Highlands could be interconnectted. If you look at the original 2 maps for the zone.

    http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/2...ghlandshf1.jpghttp://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9...rauberghr7.jpg

It almost looks like they could fit together. The following is very rough try on my part to do so (If someone could do a better one, please do).

    http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9...ulationgo5.jpg

They almost do fit, and this would put Skyrend lined up with the Dem. This also shows the 2 exits to North Gusta, being almost lined up to where they are in the North Gustaburg (S) section. The only negative about all this is Gusgen Mines. A LS member specuclated that perhaps Gusgen Mines rest within/under Grauberg?. Of course this all just speculation and fun...

I cancelled my campaign because I wanted to do a new one rather than Vanguard X, and they don't give you tokens back like in Assault

I'm about in the same boat. I've killed tons of Gnoles in Batilla. I just tried killing a Decrepid Gnole in Jugner, but no drop. Seems odd that there's a single decrepid gnole in jugner tho... someonelse want to take a shot at him?
