Default Creation question...

Similiar to how the blocks in the in Super Mario Galaxy appear when you get close to them, I want Block "A" to appear as I jump toward it, then block "B" to appear as I make the next jump. I cannot figure out how to make this work. Theres a story level in LBP that employs this. How?

You should be able to put proximity switches attached to emitters on the walls next to the blocks although it escapes me for the moment how you would keep them from falling.

Have it emit blocks made of Dark Matter. They stay in position in the air without being attached to anything.

Yeah, this is what I finally settled for. I just painted the dark matter white to fit the theme.

I need halp again!

I'm looking to make a sort of lift, a ski style lift if you will. I'm running into 2 key logistical issues. I think I have a possible solution to one, but would like some insight into an easier method. Here's the sketch idea..

The lift seats are sort of a problem. I can get an emitter to emit them and time thier lifespan to reach the top of the lift and die off, there are 2 others issues with the lift seats I'm having.

1. Can I get the seats to emit attached to the cable some how?

2. How can the seats make the turn from the zero degre cables to the 45ish degree cables?

I think I have an idea for the conveyer system. Hopefully some motor bolts (possibly wrapped in rubber or sponge material) to move the conveyor along. I dunno, maybe I just need a different set of eyes.

Tyche, my immediate idea is to have both the conveyor AND the seats be the same piece... at least as far as you know. Create the conveyor as something that only seems like it is part of the whole thing... confusing eh? Let me try to explain.

Essentially, create a single block, with maybe 1-2 seats actually attached to it. That is the object you will emit. From there, you need to somehow create a "behind the scenes" conveyor that will carry each single block up the ramp until its lifespan is reached. I would also hide the beginning and end of the conveyor with a bit of material in the very foreground. That way your objects spawn and dissolve isn't seen.

For the conveyor... i would work on creating something in the 2nd or 3rd plane like a block... that is part of the object. On the actual conveyor side of things, you would need to create some kind of cog mechanism that continuously pulls the object up to the top.

Sounds simple i think, and I am leaving a lot to your imagination, but something tells me you get the idea? I would sketch something up if i wasn't at work.

There is actually a very nice tutorial on how to make a conveyor belt in the Guidebook, but that conveyor belt stays horizontal and does not rise up an incline. I don't think that the conveyor belt tutorial was in that Amazon PDF thing, but you might take a look.

why do you need to make the seats emit?
why not have your main conveyer belt and the seats as a two part piece attached with a loose bolt? if you're worried about players getting on top of it, put some poison gas up there to prevent that from happening.

Guessing that they would have to emit to work as a conveyor belt? Otherwise they would just pile up. I just suggested that they are one piece to make it easier to control. If the Seats and the moving blocks are one object, that is just one thing you have to emit. Then you just need to work on getting them moving when they are emitted.

There was a really simple solution to this issue that just hit me all of a sudden. I'd explain it, but it's complicated without actually seeing the implementation. Hopefully I'll finish off the level this weekend, haven't had much time to mess with it this week.

What am I up to? I am at work... streaming season 3 of Prison Break =P

I actually feel like I am neglecting LBP. I have tons of ideas still on a daily basis, and at least I am writing them down, but just haven't had much time to work on my next level. It is started, with no real direction in mind. I am just creating as I go along... We will see. Hopefully i have something new in a little while.

Get to creating Hiryo! I hope to play a bit this weekend, as I still need the 3 and 4 player prizes, and 3 more levels Aced. But... Left4Dead should be in my Mailbox today or tomorrow too and I know a friend of mine will try to drag me away for that =P

the floaty material will stay in place, but i dont think you can attach any other materials to it or touch it, otherwise it will move

Peach Floaty and the like don't stay in place. I can't remember the other color, but one rises as high as possible regardless, and the other floats in whatever direction you move it in. Dark Matter is the only substance that can be put anywhere and stay suspended and solid with no other support.
