does anyone know if there are any indestructable materials?
what i'm doing is building a big tank, i made the treads and turret as two different pieces and they work well enough on their own. the problem comes in when i attach them together. the notches in the treads that go between the gears start popping under the stresses and the whole tread assembly eventually pulls apart. i tried using different woods and metals but am having the same problems regardless. any ideas on how i could fix this?

There are a LOT of indestructible materials actually, most of them i would say. The thing is though, that isn't your problem. you can throw all the bombs you want at a Glass, Wood, or Metal object and it will not be affected. Your problem isn't that the material is weak, it is that your physics have issues.
You can't force objects to do things that are impossible according to the mechanics of the game. You can have two rods pushing materials at each other with high strength and speed and not expect one or both of them to get destroyed/evaporate for example. What it sounds like you need to do is create the vehicle with LIGHTER materials, not stronger materials. It sounds like weight is causing your connections to crumble. Using Cardboard for example may solver your problem. I know it is a bit plain, but you could experiment with using stickers to decorate it. The other possibility is that your connections, be them rods, winches, chains, etc are not setup correctly and are coming apart. I would make sure that they all have their strength tweaked appropriately. If they are coming into contact with other materials, you may want to lower the strength to give them a bit of leeway for example. That way they give way a bit instead of evaporate. Just my thoughts without knowing in more detail what your vehicle looks like. Hope it helps.

yea, i figured it was a weight problem since they pretty much only self destruct when the weight of the turret is added on top. i guess reducing the weight is the obvious solution that i couldnt see since it was staring me in the face. the issue, i think, isn't with the connections between the segments, but with the segments themselves vaporizing and opening up the loop. i'll give reducing the rod strength a try, though, and see if that has any affect.
thanks for the suggestions

I had the same problem with my own version of Tank treads. Though the tank could rest on them, and move back and forth...and it did look awesome...whenever I hit any kind of test obstical the treads would start popping. I just said the hell with treads, made a line of wheels and stuck with that. So far that hasn't given me any problems and they've actually been able to climb across some pretty wonky surfaces.
And it still looks awesome. |

so you just used wheels in place of the cogs or are you saying that the you removed the tread belt all together?
btw, i couldn't change the materials of the drive assembly that i put together because it tore itself apart when it was cardboard, however, changing the turret section to cardboard solved the issue in most cases. though, i still have the popping when going over abnormal obsticals, same as Ziero. it handles uneven terrain just fine though.

Yea, I removed the treads entirely and just went with a line of rubber wheels, with two smaller ones on the front and the back to assist with climbing over uneven terrain. It can't go up anything too steep, but it does a good job of climbing over bumps, gaps and even cars.
...however it also has a tendency to slowly move backwards for some strange reason, I think it might be a problem with the suspension. |
