Like the title says sega releasing a huge pack of 40 genesis in one pack for 29.99.
Link gives complete list, has a huge amount of clasics. New 'Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection' from Sega, 40 titles included - Xbox 360 Fanboy

I think the assumption is that they went back and fixed the graphics to run properly in 720p. If they just made the game capable of running in 720p by upscaling and leaving the core graphics unchanged, then yeah, it's gonna look like pixelated shit.

The PS2 version that I have just sort of starts the game in a box in the middle of the screen. I mean, it's not terrible, but it's noticeable (this is on my 27" tube TV, which I have consoles other than my 360 and PS3 hooked up to). Especially since the geometry isn't perfect on it...I've been spoiled by my LCD TV... If you have an HDTV, filtering can also make things look acceptable. Not as much of a problem with 2D games, but 3D PSX and PS2 games tend to look like they were pulled out of a cat's ass on an HDTV, without filtering and all that. |

Personally, I'm more inclined to buy classic games like that stamped onto shiny plastic discs though. Not keen on paying as much as they charge for a download, and I like having the physical media for collection purposes. |

Agreed on Shining in the Darkness. It's a fucking terrible dungeon crawler. Shining Force 1 and 2 are kind of like FF Tactics, Vandal Hearts, Ogre Battle etc. Both are absolutely fantastic. Who else killed Dark Dragon with their main character? Instead of the normal default attack motion he salutes the dragon with his green lightsaber then pummels him. Awesome.

In all seriousness, I disagree entirely that Darkness is a poor dungeon crawler. It's relatively easy despite its age, despite many titles which have come out since then with outrageous random battle amounts. Its first-person perspective was well-done on the Genesis, and though it certainly wasn't the first of its kind, I enjoyed the memories of the more archaic "Phantasy Star." In fact, if anyone is to insult Darkness, then you may as well say the first PS was trash, too. The dialogue in it is extremely limited, since there was only so much space the translators had to use, and many of your required goals are extremely vague. Without the wonders of the internet we now have, it was much harder years ago to conquer that game. Darkness isn't like that at all. Far less frustration and more logical progression. It's dated, but so is PSII, which is excellent yet similarly difficult. Let's be fair considering when these games came out. I like all of the ones mentioned, but I can look at them objectively. If you didn't like it then, very well, but it's by no means awful. |
