What the title says, I only have the cash to buy myself one new game right now (renting Bioshock tomorrow prolly), and it's a showdown between Fallout 3 and LBP, so I want opinions/suggestions.

Two different games, it really depends on your tastes.
I truly enjoyed Oblivion and Fallout 1&2(big fan of post-apocalyptic setting), love deep games and PC RPGs so I'll go with Fallout. Game looks very VERY VERYimpressive so far, I don't think you can go wrong with it if you like the genre. Also, it's a very deep game and will keep you busy for a long time. |

Fallout 3 is supposedly well over 100 hours of gameplay, made for the older audience
LBP seems likes its good for a month then bye bye (i really dont see why people are excited about this game in the least, seems more like a child's game more than anythin.) Really depends on what games you like to play, in all reality |

Fallout 3, when you pick up LBP later on down the line it'll have much more content available for it since people will have had time to experiment and make better levels. This is, of course, if you intend to buy whichever you're not getting at the moment later on.

Fallout 3 lets you make a gun where you can launch Teddy Bears, Ashtrays, and dismembered limbs at enemies.
I'm going with Fallout. Seriously though, I'm hoping Fallout 3 will have the same Black Humor as the previous ones and what little I played of other Fallout games I loved. Need a new RPG to while away the hours too. |

Personally I am picking Fallout 3. It is rare now day that a game is worth the full $60 you pay for it. Fallout 3 seems to fall in that rare category. It has hours of gameplay and much playability value.
While LBP may actually fall in that same rare category, I can still see myself getting bored with it after time. Whereas I hope fallout 3 will be much like Oblivion is to me, where at random times I find myself wanting to pick it up and play again, despite how long it has been or how often I've done so. |

I hear Fallout 3 contains less 4th wall breakage and self-referencing humor than the others but it should create a more immersive experience. I'm actually really looking forward to it, which is surprising since I hated Oblivion, haven't finished the other Fallouts, and tend to be quite jaded when it comes to new releases. |

What do you guys think about the graphics?
Personally I am not a graphics whore and couldn't care less for the most part. But one of my friends pointed something out that I can't disagree with. The graphics in this game seem to be a step back from a game like Oblivion. He even went as far as to say this game looks like it has the graphics of a original Xbox. I guess that varies from picture to picture but overall I'd have to agree that it does look a bit rough around the edges. I can just hope that the lack of graphics means they used more space on actual content. After all, with such a dark world, I think it would be a bit harder to look as good as Oblivion. |

I've never played Fallout 1 and 2, is it necessary to do so before playing 3 or can you just jump in? Looks interesting so I'm wondering if it's worth picking up if you've never played them before.

Fallout 3 basicaly for the reasons kia said, I was able to pick it up last night at another wallmart, thus far the game is amazing and tons of fun, everyone who played the first 2 and is a fan will be happy with it. Also yes you can just jump in if you havent played the others.
As for LBp im sure you saw my post, I personally got bored with the beta. The story is rather short and good levels are far in between, ill be waiting a few months to buy it myself when it has more content. I justfelt the platforming wasnt exciting as I expected. But I can see why the game appeals to so many. Im just oposite of izembo, I love open world games, I like exploring and capping bitches in the face every once in a while.

I don't know how you pull the assumption that the story mode is rather short having only played the beta, but it really isn't. But as multiple people have said, it's up to individual tastes. I personally dislike games like Fallout, but in no ways are they bad. I see LBP as having more replayability further down the road, but like Kia said, if you're picking up both, you might want to get Fallout 3 first, unless you have an undying love for platforming games.

Well a good friend of mine has had the recalled copy since last week and I played it with him for a while, and we were able to get through 1/2 of the story mode in about 3-4 hours, maybe I could have worded what I had said better and failed to mention I had already played the completed version. I wanted to give it another shot since there was going to be endless replay value and I really wanted to like the game and figured the beta didnt do it justice. Anyway thats my bad I could have worded my response better and added that in there, anyway, like I said its just not for me right away, i want to wait for better levels to try out and im sorry but an 8-9 hr story mode is short imo.

The majority of games have an 8-9 hour story mode. Look at Dead Space, the game was awesome but can easily be finished in 7-9 hours. Not trying to convince you to buy the game if you don't want to. Just clearing that up. I'm sure when I'm done building my awesome amazing like having sex with a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader level and you see it you will want to get the game just to play it.

8 hours for a platformer is not short. I would have thought later levels would be harder/longer aswell, so if you only got halfway in 3-4 hours it could be a good 9-10 hours. Regardless, we all know the focus of LBP is the user created content, so people would be buying it for that and not solely the story mode.

Yes I'll agree with the comment about legnth, but like I said I can wait for more user generated content, it'll make it a better purchase for me personally and I challenge you to make that level.
Sad part for me is if I did buy it right away it would get lost in the fray with fable 2, resistance 2 and fallout 3.

Is the open-world aspect of Fallout 3 like the old Fallout games or like Oblivion?
I liked that Fallout left you to your own devices, but you always had a niggling feeling that you really needed to get going with the main quest/plot. It had just the right sense of urgency. Oblivion just sort of spat you out into the world and that was it. The "I've got something to do" feeling was never there. |

It pulls from a little bit of both, just because oblivion was open world, thats about all it has in common. It plays and feels like its true to the fallout series to me.
