Default Video Games are heartless, unlike movies.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/enter...,1552695.story

Quote:
Max Payne isn't the worst video-game movie adaptation, not so long as Uwe Boll lives, breathes and directs. The acting's not bad, overall; the shootouts work. But as good as a couple of its action beats are, Max still suffers from the heartlessness that makes games emotionally inferior to movies. Nobody ever shed a tear over a video-game character's death.

How does this make you feel?

There have been plenty of games that have made me teary... & a character didn't even need to die! But who really cares about those types of reviews anyways, the general trend is just that movie's based on video games tend to suck... and frankly... its true lol

edit: Max Payne seems to be no exception. Reviews make it out to be the worst game adaption yet lol.

I was thinking about making a crack about JRPGs being two games; one where you play through combat sequences relatively unrelated to the story beyond defeating bosses, and the movies you watch in cutscenes. But I didn't really feel like cocking this thread up when I can make the JRPG folks angry over in their own forum.

Anyway, it's disappointing to see the low reviews for the Max Payne film. I had high hopes for it (not The Departed high, but decent action movie high), though it seems the critics are not into it.

About the movie: Indifferent, never played the game and marky mark has been sucking (see: the whatshappening?)

In general, eh Persona 3 got me a little emo when Jumpei and Akihiko got their final personas ;x

Akihiko's, it's a spoiler so be warned: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=W6f4n3joJVM

What were people really expecting from this movie? The trailers looked absolutely horrid and Marky Marks performance in alot of his movies has been shit (excluding The Departed)

Same, add Suikoden 2 to the list, the parts with Nanami near the end.

I cried when I met Cooke and Mack in Lost Odyssey. Biggest douchebags in gaming history.

Oh and I cried again when they sang that fucking stupid song in the mansion to 'bring back' whatsherfuck (cant remember the name).

Only thing good about that game was Jansen and the chick with the double Ds

I hate your guts for already mentioning this. Also Gremio's death and Arshtat/Ferid's was pretty sad too.

Also Persona 2 IS ending makes me fucking miserably sad.

A lot of the deaths in the Silent Hill games are pretty emotional/hard to watch.

This was fucking heartbreaking.

I can't really say I've ever cried about something in a video game as much as I've been left speechless or had a "wtf" moment. I can recall a number of times where I've been like "woah, didn't see that coming" or "man, that was pretty f'ed up". But never can I recall shedding a tear over a game.

And come on, seriously, did anyone really expect that Max Payne movie to do anything but suck?

I think the saddest I've been at a video game in a long time is Pokémon Mystery Dungeon 2... don't laugh unless you've played it. >:

I remember getting reeaaaaaalllly emotional when one of my close friends logged out for the last time in FFXI. Didn't cry, but I could have if I weren't so black and manly.

One of the first real friendships that I created online.

Eh, I got the same with a couple of friends but that's not really pertinent to the game but more your friendship.

I didn't laugh. I feel like I should have, but I didn't. Is there something wrong with me?

Have you played it? The ending was "HOLY SHIT I DID NOT EXPECT THIS FROM A POKÉMON GAME".

MMO player characters don't count since they are not apart of the plot or anything.

MGS has its moments. Needs to be mentioned. Also Mother series, ESPECIALLY 3. My top 4 games are all crybaby stuff, what is wrong with me.

(hurr hurr MGS movie)

I haven't. Was it any good? I was pretty disappointed with the original mystery dungeon games. Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon is by far my favorite mystery dungeon game.

I thought it was really good, but I never actually played the original. The story was surprisingly good (though your partner is whiny as hell). Would have prefered it if it was a bit harder myself, but it was still a fun playthrough.

The partner in the original had about as much personality as a brick, so I suppose even being super whiny is an improvement. I dunno, maybe I'll try it at some point, sounds almost playable compared to the original.

Apparently not much changed between the games. So if you didn't like the gameplay of the original I wouldn't waste your time. I certainly enjoyed it though.
