Default White Knight Chronicles: 100 Hours Of Story, PSN Co-Op

PSXextreme
http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/3904.html

Excerpts:

Quote:
Japanese gaming site Game-Star! has listed several new interesting tidbits: first of all, the native 1080p high-definition resolution is confirmed again, which is great news as far as we're concerned. Also, in terms of the gameplay, there's a "dynamic battle system" that will allow you to switch between the regular characters and the "colossal white knight" form whenever you wish. We haven't seen or heard much about this Transformers-like morphing in WKC, but we're certainly intrigued. And remember, even though the game isn't traditionally turn-based, we've heard it will be a hybrid type; a blend of turn-based and real-time fighting.

Lastly, there are two new pieces of information that jack the game's longevity through the roof: the story campaign alone could last over 100 hours, and Level 5 will provide co-op gameplay over the PlayStation Network! These days, when a game lasts 20 or 30 hours and that's considered "long," RPG fans continue to wait for a ridiculously long and in-depth JRPG. Well, White Knight Chronicles should fit the bill quite nicely.

Excerpts:

Quote:
White Knight will feature a cooperative online quest mode. Separate from the single player story mode, the online mode, known in the Japanese version as "Live Part," will allow four players to team up to work through quests.

While the game's story mode does not offer co-op play, there is a connection between the story mode and online modes. The character that you use in the online mode will travel in your party during the story mode. Additionally, quests from the online mode can be played single player as well.

White Knight will feature all the expected components of an online title, including a lobby, featuring up to 16 players, an auto matching system, and chat facilities of some form. A robust character creation system was detailed months ago.

A Japanese release for White Knight Chronicles is set for December 25. The game will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show later this week.

anyone know if WKC will have a seamless world? Like minimal to no loading screens between areas or a big world map in general?

Sorta like Oblivion..

Hopefully NOT like Lost Odyssey or FF12

Looks awesome; I can't wait for more details to come out when they show their playable version at TGS later in the week.

100h story = 40h game with a ton of forced grinding. I don't trust gaming company anymore...gonna wait to see if it's a real 100h or not.

20 hours of gameplay, 20 hours of needed grinding, 60 hours of cutscenes.

hi2u Xenosaga. But seriously, I don't even know if I'd want a game to have 100 hours of actual story. I have enough problems nowadays finding the time to play all the way through good RPGs, and one like this that I really, really want, I'd hate to see be way too long to finish in any reasonable sum of time.

I wish. I would probably buy a game with no gameplay, just story (text based game or w/e)

Xenosaga 1/2/3 had respectively 8h, 6h and 6h worth of animated cutscenes (XS3 had 4 more hours of dialoguy). The ratio isn't as high as people make it sound.

If gameplay is fun, then grinding isn't a problem. Hell, even a 40hr game is long. 100hrs is a pretty high ballpark figure, but if the story and gameplay is good, I doubt much will matter.

I personaly like long games, I like to get the most of the games I decide to get, some people complain about short games and when they make a long rpg, people still complain, oh well, im looking forward to this one.

Yeah, people complain about anything given the chance, but like you if I'm gonna spend £40/50 then I would like to play a game that lasts 100 hours rather than 8 hours.

It sounds great, even if it takes me two or three months to finish it.

I'm well aware of that, it's just easy to use for comparison because of the flak it caught for having so much time spent in cutscenes. And don't get me wrong, it's not that I wouldn't like a 100+ hour RPG, I'm just afraid I won't have time to get through it uninterrupted. I'm still going to buy this one way or the other.
