Xbox FFXI

I mainly play FFXI on PC but sometimes I use my Xbox360 if i want to play on my TV. So I update my Xbox360 with the new dashboard a required update. So I thought maybe I should see if FFXI still works with this new interface they have. Now I pop in my FFXI disc and sure enough it won't play and the even start or do anything. Gives me an error that I should download the game again.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Looks like NXE broke FFXI. MS better patch the NXE to let FFXI play, don't they test this stuff.

I had no problem starting up FFXI after downloading NXE.

When i clicked the "install game" option for POL it wanted to install 3+ Gig on the HDD again, even though the POL (as well as the game) already is completely installed. I only have 2 Gig free, so i thought fuck it and just started the POL without installing again. While in POL the disk was constantly spinning like before NXE, but when loading up FFXI the disk stopped spinning and the game runs completely from HDD (in fact it always did, but now the disk is not constantly spinning anymore).
I didn't have to install or change anything to have it work like that.

They said they had no information about anyone else having trouble with this at this point.

I recently got my Xbox back from their repair Service, too.

Yeah, I used WoTG and installed POL from there..didn't require GBs of space..so might be an issue with collections disks.

I also used WoTG to install it. Wotg POL takes like 3.2GB while original FFXI takes 6.7 GB when you want to install on HDD

EDIT:

The method posted above worked for me. I am now in POL and logged in. Just save your shit with the POL option before you reinstall POL.

Here again for clarity:

Install POL disc to your HDD on the Dashboard

↓

Start POL and let it produce the Dashboard Error

↓

Start POL again and POL will lead you to the Option page where you can reinstall POL

↓

Reinstall POL while saving your Data

↓

POL will install and update

↓

You are now back in POL and can play FFXI. From now on starting from the Dashboard will work without problems also.

Also called Xbox Support (Germany) again and told them how to haha

Thanks for posting the makeshift Read Me.

The working method seems very convoluted (and more than a little annoying). If this really is the only way to install it successfully post-NXE then I'd hope SE release an announcement on POL or something to explain it. I foresee many disgruntled players otherwise.

While many have the problem it doesn´t seem too common. Like 6 of my friend were able to get on FFXI without doing anything special.

I got mine back from repair recently too. Maybe that has something to do with it not working.

Count me in as one of those that had no issues playing it on 360. I hadn't touched it for about 2 weeks, logged in, updated, and cancelled 4 of 5 Content IDs just fine.

I was ready to go through the above process just to GET to cancel my IDs before month's end. Phew. Sorry to hear that some of you are having issues =(

Reinstalling the POL viewer fixes it. No need to install your FFXI disc onto the HDD.
Just reinsall the viewer.

(Unless it gives you the error I think was mentioned, then do whatever the quotes say)

Same problem, but I just got a disc read error without installing the game to my HDD, worked fine once then it just wouldn't boot up the game at all, all other games worked just fine, it was just FFXI, since installing I have had no problems..... yet.

Just put your FFxi disk in and reinstall pol viewer from the disk, it will fix it.

The reason some people have to save to HD is that you need to get POL to get a "You didn't shut down properly" message so it will cut off the auto-login most ppl have so they can reinstall FFXI since some of these xboxes don't recognize the POL viewer being saved on the HD.

SE did confirm the issue exists seem to be working on it.

However their fix won't work for all people due to the fact that if they can't start POL there is no way for them to reinstall.

Formatting your 360s HDD should work but then you would lose all your gamesaves and such.
