New Features for Dancers and Scholars! (12/08/2008)


Dancers and scholars of Vana'diel, this is the day you've been waiting for!

The upcoming version update will see the introduction of two long-awaited features for each of these jobs: the Group 2 merit point category and relic armor. With release day drawing near, we've decided to give you a sneak preview of some of the new abilities that await you.
So put on your dancing shoes, crack open those books, and read on!

Job Ability "Saber Dance"

Increases Double Attack rate but renders Waltz unusable. Double Attack rate gradually decreases. Recast: 5min. Each upgrade shortens recast time by 30 seconds.

Job Ability "Fan Dance"
-----------------------
Reduces physical damage taken and increases enmity but renders Samba unusable. Physical damage reduction gradually decreases with each hit taken. Recast: 5min. Each upgrade shortens recast time by 30 seconds.

Optimizes both white and black magic capabilities and allows access to both addenda for your next spell. Recast: 10min. Each upgrade shortens recast time by 1 minute 15 seconds.

Storm-type spells grant a bonus to attributes associated with their element. Initial bonus value: +3. Each subsequent upgrade increases bonus value by 1.

Neat. So Ice storm will do 3+1+1+1+1 INT fully meritted if I'm not mistaken. Not bad at all to keep up for nuking, not bad paired up with ice staff.

What attribute does dark weather give though ?

Don't think we were sure what additional merits on SCH Group 2 did yet, a lot of people were still under the impression it would be +15 total fully merited until now.

Maybe Voidstorm gives Max MP+? That would be sad if it had no effect...

I was thinking this same thing... SE has tended to toss out those cheap sort of buffs a few time before (MNK).

Why are you complaining? They actually gave DETAILS about the abilities, something they rarely if at all ever update on either in a teaser or update notes.

DNC abilities with 5min recast up to 2.30 min recast fully merited. Sounds tasty.

I don't know, most SCHs seem to love the idea behind Stormsurge..people are so picky these days about the kind of buff/merits they get.

Because the VIT up from Sandstorm will be very helpful. Or the AGI up from wind storm. And Bards will come running for the great taste of Aurorastorm.

Yes, +7 INT would be nice for nuking (ice nukes only, since the weather bonus for any other nuke would probably outweigh the effect of 7 INT if you have a sea obi), and maybe Firestorm and Thunderstorm could be situational, but is it really 220,000 XP good? 220,000 XP merits to cap a Category 2 merit is a good reason to be picky about what we get. Some gift-horses mouths' are worth looking into.

I doubt anyone would be picky if the stat boosts were more than +1 after the first boost. Should be 3+3+3+3+3 if anything, 3+1+1+1+1 is meh.

Then again this is the same people who released Maat's cap with a whopping +7 statsto rival the almighty Wyvern Helm +1

Who needs haste when a sch can give all your melee +7 STR~

Obviously this was the fix SCH needed for meriting! Booyah!

(Seriously though I do think the +7 INT would be nice... just wish helix spells weren't so dependent on weather effects. Noctohelix, Luminohelix damage boost where?)

I wish helices lasted as long as they did, but bump up the speed of tick. They were advertised as super DoTers, but it's more like meh.

Modus Veritas merits? Same tic, but 1.5 the length! Too bad it's only every 10 minutes and on top of that Helix spells don't land for more than 30 damage on anything you'd actually want to use them on anyway. For what seemed like SCHs main unique ability, it sure does blow a lot more than it should. I honestly really hope they tweak them hardcore some day.

Enlightenment is going to be great. Definatly capping that then probably stormsurge, even though it doesn't look to be that useful.
