Default Interview with Directors of CoP and ToAU

This is a new interview that was just released in a book that archives FFXI-related Dengeki magazine articles. I got the first volume a couple months back, thinking there would be all those delicious old interviews, like the one with the Graphics Team. Sadly, all interviews were removed and replaced with a big, smirking Taru, as if to mock my mistaken purchase.

It seems like I might not have been the only one disappointed in this, because the second volume of archived articles now featured bonuses, including an all-new interview conducted in August 2008, right before the latest Version update.

They sit down with Nobuaki Komoto, Director of CoP, and Koichi Ogawa, Director of ToAU. Nothing really new or earth-shattering here, but an interesting glimpse into the development process.

Sweet, they have a picture of the fat bastard who brought us shit like AV. Now I know what he looks like so I can punch him in the face.

GJ on the interview translation though, Elmer. ^^

Well that's certainly appropriate considering Galka players tend to be fucking retarded.

The interview is a nice change from the

"I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know."

Yagudo Samurai... that reminds me of recent amount of some pics with a mithra wearing the yag hem around. The helm doesn't look all that bad on mithra

Reminds me of this hentai doujin with a mithra wearing this yagudo helm... O_o

Anyway,... so whos going to make a punching bag or something with the big JP guy for making AV!?

Ogawa: Yes, that of course is true. By the way, Wings of the Goddess added Scholar and Dancer, were designed to be support jobs that could shake up current play styles, while the three jobs added in Treasures of Aht Urghan, Blue Mage, Corsair and Puppetmaster, were made to stand apart as unique main jobs.
I'd almost go as far as saying SCH and DNC were designed to be 'sub' not 'support' jobs.. but nice read.

I still like CoP

Ah, actually you're right, that's what he meant. I'll go back and clarify that.

That's because the interview wasn't really asking anything specific. It was asking more about how they felt about very general shit they've already done.

Elmer you're awesome. I also noticed, on the merit group 2 interview you posted...
Quote:
Answer: The effect from Desperate Blows is only active when you use Last Resort. Also, the effect from Last Resort and Hasso during the same short amount of time is capped at 25%. So a fully merited Desperate Blows at 25% is equal to a Desperate Blows taken to the 3rd level (15%) + Hasso (10%). If you merit Desperate Blows above the 3rd level, using something other than Samurai for a support job is more viable. This is why they are the same up until the 3rd level.
Interesting

I'm pretty confident SE has reps that read on BG to update them with information.. Watch out what you say cause chance are, someone with them is gonna read it.

On a side note.. I wish these guys were debriefed about the Salvage 25 gear drop mechanics.

Also from that merit discussion:

Quote:
Question: From what I can tell in game, Slow II and Phalanx II are really popular! I especially think that a fully merited Phalanx II is excellent.

Answer: Slow II is probably popular because it can override certain haste effects (from spells or other abilities). Phalanx II is stronger than regular Phalanx so it’s also very handy when you solo.
Say what?

I think he just meant that Lv.5 Phalanx II is slightly stronger than Phalanx unless your Enhancing is >= 290 (or at least that's how I take it, since fully merited Phalanx II was brought up in the "question.")

No WotG guy? He must still be in whatever coma he slipped into around halfway through the initial stages of development.

Yes. Overall, gradual progression to new areas was the main concept behind Chains of Promathia.
That explains a lot. Nothing more gradual than forcing you to buy a whole new set of gear every time you explore a 'new' area to meet the level cap. It's like leveling to 75 all over again! Komoto really understands the magic that makes MMOs fun!

<3 Elmer; I give the CoP guy credit because I actually enjoyed the story & missions more than ToAU, but the additions ToAU brought to the game did create more casual content. I had a small group of friends static CoP pretty quickly as new missions came out etc, I can see why people would hate it in that sense if you couldn't find a group. Episodic Gaming requiring others could get frustrating. Super interesting article.
