(Dunno if this has been posted anywhere else. But I thought it was interesting.)

If it weren't for needing an account with fileplanet, I'd have said it was about time SE got around to doing what they should have done years ago.
Still waiting on the day that they offer you download links to the game itself on the main FFXI page, and you just pay for the serial keys, just like most MMOs out there. At least they're making progress regardless. Could be fun to get a bunch of friends together on the same server and see how far everyone can make it together during the trial. |

People on MMORPG forums such as OnRPG are already swarming over it and downloading it. xD Smart move SE, think it will lure some new customers. =) |

Overall, I guess it's a pretty good idea, though.

Hopefully the addition of the newbie guide NPCs means most of these trial players won't quit after 5 days. I think any new players will still find they have an overwhelming amount of mission/access/etc. catch-up to do, but ideally there will be other new players who need this stuff too.

Most of the higher level players are so apathetic or too busy camping/watching windows to help out newer players. It even urks me more when these "elite" players laugh at or poke fun of them. It would be nice if these players actually help out and guide new players, instead of stringing these guys in one-line catch phrases of how stupid the new players are in the Linkshell chats. I'm trying out the 14-day trial since I've temporarily deactivated my main account.
There are no restrictions except it's just 14 days to make any character on any server and play as that character. You are given a content ID and registration code for FFXI alone. None of the Expansion packs will apply even if you've installed them. You'll still have to buy new registration codes for them. IF you'd like to buy registration codes, follow the instructions here. Without access to the Expansion packs, you will be unable to enter any Expansion zones or content from Zilart, CoP, Aht Urghan, or WotG. Basically after 14 days I assume you will have to start paying for the character, obviously. Also, you can create up to a max of 5 characters.

I think I'm missing something. Does it require you to pay for the service to download the game or just signing up for the site?
Edit: Nevermind I think the premium fileplanet just means you don't have to wait in in line to download. Last edited by Gwynplaine; 10-05-2008 at 03:06 PM. |

So do you have to download the separate trial version of FFXI for this if you already have the game installed? Or can you just use the registration code?
EDIT: To answer my own question, no you don't need to download the trial if you already have the regular game. You can just create a new pol account with the reg code they send you. Last edited by fantasticdan; 10-05-2008 at 03:35 PM. |

My cousin was trying to download it but blocked him due to region. Isn't it odd that NA have a site to direct download from but EU only have the option to purchase and download? Unless I'm missing a link here.

I'm more interested that they focus on Bahamut in that picture, what with the recent trademark registration and all.
