Looks like Blizzard doesn't like cheating either.

Player receives Developer item in the mail, one-shots Ulduar

TL;DR: A GM sent a player a GM item with additional effect AoE Death. Player uses item to completely clear new raids. Blizzard bans everyone in the guild, even those that hadn't been on any of the raids.

There are of course differences between this and the Salvage duping bans, but Blizzard was able to find out about this because the person got a lot of first Achievements which made it pretty obvious what they were doing. Oh and it recorded their highest damage hit of something like 350 million damage (the max HP of one of the hardest hard mode new bosses). If they had been smarter they could have waited and abused the hell out of it.

This isn't to start any kind of WoW v. FFXI war or anything. I just thought it was interesting to get a perspective on what other MMO's do when something hinky happens.

It's not at all. Both companies banned a lot of people for being directly or indirectly involved with cheating. Wasn't that part of the complaint about the Salvage bannings? To us they seemed at the time to be arbitrary and capricious?

I was more posting it to show the similarity between the companies than any difference.

If people can't see that, and just turn it into a WoW vs. FFXI fight then they should just save us all the trouble and eat cyanide.

Still, that's cool how they give GMs super mega death weapons. I wish GMs in this game had crap like that. Instead of immediately banning a botter or something, the GM could keep killing the offender and deleveling them until level 4 and then ban them.

GM's have one-shot kills in FFXI but I believe it is bound to the GM account not to gear.

As for the relevance to FFXI... if you can't figure it out then I have pity on your soul.
