    Basically, you get to play drums, guitar, bass, and do vocals. There's a mode where you can do all this with friends and go through being a small time band and work your way up. There are over 150 venus, there's going to be downloadable content added every week for the rest of this year and the early parts of next year. You will be able to download full albums or do it on a track by track basis, and activision isn't doing the prices this time around so it shouldn't be super expensive like GH 2 dlc. And also for anyone that doesn't know, the people who made guitar 1 and 2 DID NOT make guitar hero 3. MTV games bought harmonix (the makers of GH 1 & 2) and activision retained the rights to guitar hero, so they commisioned neversoft to make #3 while harmonix made rock band.

    Anyways, this game just has way too much to offer and I'm looking forward to the release, setlist looks better than GH 3's IMO. Anyone else heard about this game and is going to get it when it gets released? Or is anyone excited now and want to get it?
    Definitely looks cool but too expensive for me to pick up. I'd also disagree with you on the setlist, GH3's is way better.

    Setlist for rock band fucking sucks. I counted a total of 3 songs I can actually tolerate on it.

    If they ever straight rip off Drum Mania without bundling it with other garbage, then I'd buy it.

    Re: Rock Band!

    Also, when it first comes out you can buy just the game if you want then use your GH guitar on it, then when they release the drums/mic by themselves pick those up if you want to do one of them.

    Early next year they'll release the drums / mic / wireless guitar by themselves

    Downloadable content

    Additionally, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will support downloadable tracks, including complete albums. Users can download the albums in their entirety or on a track-by-track basis.[36] The first of these will be Who's Next by The Who, which will be made available shortly after the game's release.[37] Other Metallica tracks spanning the band's entire career will be made available for download, as well.[38] All downloadable tracks will be playable within the Band World Tour career mode.[26]

    Thus far, the following downloadable content has been announced:

    * Who's Next – The Who[37]
    * "One" – Metallica[39]
    * An additional full album by Metallica[15]
    * 18 songs by The Grateful Dead (including "Casey Jones", "Sugar Magnolia", "Touch of Grey", "Truckin'", and "Uncle John's Band")[40]
    I haven't bought GH3 yet, and because of there being a few more songs I can stand on rockband, plus this downloadable content quote, I'll probably get it and never buy GH3.

    $70 more for an inferior guitar, and a game that isn't that much different than just being happy with gh3. i dont buy every gh either, this is the only one i own. it looks like it'll be a fun game but at $149, it isnt going to sell too many copies.

    Re: Rock Band!

    How do you even know it's an inferior guitar, have you played it? It feels a lot more solid to me, just because it's wired doesn't mean it's inferior. And I don't think it'll sell as much as guitar hero, but harmonix made their game a household name once, I think they can do it again. We're already having to stop preorders because we're not going to have enough opening day.

    Re: Rock Band!

    Does the GH controller really work with it? I have the GH2 controller, and I have been told the GH3 is wayyy better designed, i'm hoping Rockband's is as well, but if not I can probably snag a GH3 controller for it if it works.

    Re: Rock Band!

    GH controllers DO work with rock band, but since activision is a bunch of pricks, the rock band guitar won't work with guitar hero (not yet anyways). I've played rock band a few times already (the demo), when it was at PAX and the best buy next to me has a demo set up. The guitar is a lot different than the guitar hero guitars. For one it's a lot bigger, it's a 2/3 scale model of a real stratocaster, the buttons are designed differently to where they don't protrude, they are kinda built into the neck. For solos, there are an alternative set of buttons near where the strum bar is, if you are hitting notes on those buttons, you don't have to strum at all. The guitar for rock band is a lot better IMO, it also has an effect switch so you can toggle between wah-wah, echo, flange, chorus and none. The whammy bar is also bigger, which is good cause I kept losing mine in GH ~_~

    Like I said... I agree mostly. I like the songs themselves, but playing a lot of them was pretty boring and uninspiring. But if I was able to do vocals for some of them or drums I wouldve liked them a lot better.

    Re: Rock Band!

    I probably will pick up the game by itself if that's an option, and then wait until they sell the items separately and pick up the drums, as I don't really care for all the rest (and I can use the GH guitars to play it, so that's a plus..)

    The bass is kind of boring, and I really wanna see how badly people sing online but i'm not gonna be the guinea pig lol.

    Re: Rock Band!

    Game by itself is an option and drums should be available mid jan - early feb, but until then you can play all songs on guitar w/ your GH 3 guitar and dl some new ones. Personall im excited for who's next and one!

    Re: Rock Band!

    Having a bunch of people taking part of the band sounds cool, albeit, the song selection is crappy imo. That being said, with that price I might as well pick up a cheap stratocaster I prefer GH because I wanna be the "guitarist," not the drummer, singer, etc. Different strokes for different folks ;x
