Those who paid attention to the July 15th, 2009 update learned of the existence of the Random Stat Generator™ which is the basis of all gear created for Final Fantasy XI, but brought to provenance with the creation of augmented gear. Before the introduction of augmented gear, each update would only bring a few dozen new pieces of new gear with strange, purposeless, useless, or just plain weird stat combinations. Since the implementation of the augmented gear system, now people can feel the thrill of disappointment of patch day every single day with by wasting time and gil on completely haphazard rewards from battles and missions that so rarely ever pay dividends.
